Let's support Tara every step of the 52.4 miles while she supports those afflicted with colon cancer!
I am making an impact in the lives of people afflicted with colon cancer.
I am joining the fight by running the San Francisco Ultramarathon with It's A Great Day to be Alive - The Scott Raybuck Foundation. My goal is to raise as much money as I can for the life changing assistance that they give patients who are struggling with colon cancer.
Why I Run
To honor my father touched by colon cancer. A few notes about Tara's dad and how he has impacted her life. A few notes about Tara's dad and how he has impacted her life. ABOUT IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE ALIVE!
A 501(c)(3) charitable organization, It's A Great Day to be Alive has been a life changing resource for patients with colon cancer. The money the foundation raises goes directly to patients in need, as well as preventing colon cancer incidences by helping to pay for colonoscopies for those who cannot afford this life saving treatment.
The stories of how we help each patient varies depending on their needs. We can help pay bills, figure out insurance plans, buy groceries, or be a friend to talk to. One example of our outreach is George. The nurses at his oncology center brought George to our attention when they noticed he kept losing drastic amounts of weight. George was too proud to ask for help, but as his weight kept declining he admitted to the doctors that he had no money for food. He had lost sixty pounds and was trying to live off of his thirty dollars of welfare assistance a month for food. Not only was his health being tested by the cancer, he was also starving. We now pay for George to get hot meals delivered to his home daily as well as being on call for whatever he needs to give this cancer fight everything he has.
Scott Raybuck
The foundation was started because of the inspiring life that Scott Raybuck led. He spent his life trying to help others in any way he could. At the age of 57, when he was succombing to colon cancer others were still at the forefront of his mind. During this time he asked his family to help others who are suffering from colon cancer. It was named for a phrase he said everytime someone asked, "Hey Scotty, how's it going?" "It's a great day to be alive!"
